Intro: With advancing technology, the field of medicine is witnessing new successes and breaking new barriers. The instruments used to measure a variety of bodily functions are now becoming easier to handle. In this issue, Aishik Barua tells us about spirometers.
Spirometers are used to measure the volume of air breathed in and out by our lungs over a certain period of time. The earliest spirometer dates back to 129-200 AD. Of course, the most advanced spirometers are only available today. Today, spirometers can measure a number of variables present within us, including the composition of the air in our lungs, the rate at which we breathe and the amount of oxygen we breathe in, etc.
