Bio
I am of Russian descent and this is where the surname comes from, but I grew up speaking and writing in three languages at the same time - English, German, and Russian.

I was just about one month old when my parents took me to New York where they worked for the Soviet trade representation for six years. I went to a an American kindergarten where I spoke English and learned Russian at home.

From the US my parents were called back to Moscow for one year where I had the opportunity to attend a Russian school and get to know my theoretically native country at least a little bit. After this one year my father was dispatched to Hamburg, Germany for a further term of six years. I attended German schools together with some English-speaking foreigners and continued my Russian-speaking education at home.

Between the age of 13 and 17 I lived in France and Switzerland (Geneva) where I had the opportunity to acquire French language skills. At the age of 17 I returned to Germany to study medicine and business successfully completing both courses.

In 1994 I left Germany and settled in Austria for two years where I had my own trading company shipping commodities to Russia and other Eastern European countries. After 2 successful years the business situation took my wife and me to the Republic of Ireland. While dealing with the consequences of a shoulder injury that robbed me of a career in surgery, I am working as a freelance translator and interpreter, which is an activity I have been pursuing ever since I first started to speak. I have attended the Limerick University for three years studying Law and Sociology and therefore, possess extensive knowledge of both the British/US and European legal systems. Thanks to personal participation in a number of trade-related legal actions, I am intimately familiar with the practice of litigation. The University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies with its courses in professional translation provided me with the necessary tools to succeed in my current profession.

I enjoy reading in all languages I can understand. I keep up with the current political, economic, medical, legal, and cultural affairs by reading several respected newspapers and magazines. I am a classical bass-baritone (also called lyric bass or high bass) currently studying with a private voice teacher and hoping to pursue a career in classical vocals. I love tennis, horse riding, classical music (especially opera), I do martial arts, and try to attend as many cultural events as I possibly can.

My wife of 15 years, a German native from Frankfurt, often helps me by proofreading German and English translations making sure it is fluent and easy to read. She writes poetry in several languages and has almost four decades of experience in the area of translations, interpreting, and teaching.

I have been involved in several very important and prominent projects including the translation of several routes of the Dublin City Bus tour and the voiceover of same. I was chosen to interpret during ministerial level conferences, especially for the Austrian Embassy, which regularly employs me when a highly competent interpreter is needed during top-level meetings between Austrian and other officials (including the Austrian Chancellor, the Irish Prime Minister as well as numerous members of the Russian government).

To finalise the self-glorification part of this profile I would like to say that I am as reliable as the most German person you have ever heard of. I am never late and I am a perfectionist as far as my work is concerned, but do not allow myself to become pedantic. The only circumstances that can cause a delay fall under Force Majeure, but cannot be excluded.

Looking forward to working with you!
Nicholas
