Source text - English Steering Committee (Steering Committee)
The Steering Committee implements the decisions of the Council and manages overall activities of the Network which cannot be taken care of by decentralized action within the Network. The Steering Committee shall serve as the official representative of the Network. Statements on behalf of the Network at large need to be authorized by the Steering Committee, In urgent matters the chairperson and his/her deputy shall be entitled to act jointly on behalf of the whole Executive Committee.
The members of the Steering Committee will be in regular contact with each other and with the Chairperson of the International Network.
Major responsibilities of the Steering Committee include:
• guidance, support and final approval for all program activity carried out under the name of the organization;
• advise on organizational growth and development;
• advise on outreach to members and supporters;
• hiring and oversight of Chairperson;
• fiscal responsibility for approving budgets and actual expenses quarterly;
• appointing and oversight of the newsletter editor

1.2 Many of the foremost global civilizations in history met and converged along the Silk Road. The Greco-Romans encountered the Persians as well as numerous contingents of Indian and Chinese whilst Central Asia was influential in its contribution to the commingling of the various cultures and ideologies along the route.
1.3 The nomadic encounters of these diverse cultures did not materialize in a levelling or dilution of the individual cultures but, conversely, resulted in an inspired cross-fertilization or hybrid of the ideological values and tenets of each of the civilizations.

Source text - Italian Per gli antichi Egizi gli obelischi rappresentavano i simulacri del dio solare Atum-Ra. Il vertice raffigurava il punto di partenza del raggio, il centro cioè del potere solare, mentre la base rappresentava la materia informe che la luce divina del sole trasforma in cosmo. I primi erano stati elevati ad Heliopolis, città consacrata al sole, e venivano eretti in genere al centro dei santuari e accanto ai templi. Sono i relitti di un’età lontanissima, in cui anche le pietre erano oggetto di culto!
Sono davvero numerosi gli obelischi presenti nella città eterna. Essi variano da quelli alti e maestosi a quelli piccolini e semi sconosciuti. Per lo più essi provengono dapprima dall’Egitto; da dove gli antichi romani li trasportarono a bordo delle loro maestose navi fin al porto di Ostia, a volte dopo averli smontati e catalogati. Essi andarono ad ornare circhi e arene di tutta l’urbe, riempiendo d’orgoglio i suoi abitanti.
Translation - English For ancient Egyptians obelisks represented the simulacra of the solar god Atun-Ra. The vertex represented the starting point of the ray, that is the centre of solar power, whereas the base represented the shapeless substance that the divine light of the sun turns into cosmos. The first obelisks were erected in honour of Heliopolis, a city that was devoted to the sun, and they were usually erected at the centre of shrines and next to temples. They are what remains of remote ages where even the stones were object of worship.
A high number of obelisks characterizes the eternal city. The very tall and stately ones alternate with those tiny and almost unknown. Most of them originally come from Egypt. The ancient Romans shipped them to the harbour of Ostia on their imposing ships after taking them to pieces and cataloguing them most of the times. They were placed in the whole city to adorn circuses and arenas and became matter of pride for its inhabitants.
