Russian to English: One of Vladimir Vysotsky's songs
Source text - Russian The performed version of this song can be found at:
http://www.kulichki.com/vv/pesni/u-nee-vse-svoe.html
Although the rhythm pattern may not be obvious on paper, it is the closest match to the performed version of the song which is what I strived for in this translation.
Translation - English Dim
She’s got this: her own stuff—-her own place and her clothes.
Well, and I—-I have chartered a corner from Auntie
Just for her: all my free and unlimited time
Right at her, from the window across I keep staring.
At her place: every night lights are on through the hours of the night.
Just last day, their concierge spilled details for a half-pint
That she’s got: two film stars for old cozy good chums
And one swell, known artist that struts on Taganka*.
And while I—-got my paw in her Home Image Branch,
Of her life, I learned all juicy good tidbit nuances.
Her old bro: keeps goals out for foot-balling “Spartak**”
And her Pops: is a referent in House of Finances.
I’ll tell her: cannot keep from attending foot-ball,
For “Spartak”: and then words of sheer wonder ‘bout “Bubba”
I’ll tell her: I keep ties with the Treasury Chief
And me, too, I play Moscow State Theater for hobby.
She’s got placed, she’s got placed, she’s got placed pretty flowers on the panes.
She’s got drapes, she’s got drapes, she’s got drapes with some shmancy depictions.
But my panes—have got nothing but one fucking zilch!
Just old dust, just old dust, just some old fatty dust lying ‘bout on the boxes.
But that’s fine! I will buy me a lottery pass,
And right then, cause I cannot—-won’t—-wait any loooonger,
And although, I know justice walks somewhere not close,
With that slip, I’ll be sure to win me a “Volga***.”
* Taganka—-a theater in Moscow that first featured Vysotsky himself; equivalent to Off-Broadway in the US in its pick of more provoking themes and language
** Spartak—-a popular, very successful soccer club team from Moscow that was organized back in 1922
*** Volga—-the most expensive brand of automobile manufactured in the old Soviet Union
