I am interested to work as a freelance specialized
medical translator or proofreader from
German, French, Portuguese and Spanish into English. Please find below some
information that might be useful.  I also attach my CV.

1.       I spent 2 years
working for Chemisches ZentralBlatt in Berlin. I was part of a team of German
chemists preparing English abstracts of the German chemical literature for the
American Chemical Abstracts journal. This involved reading articles in
specialist German chemistry journals and then making an abstract (summary) in
English.

2.       I continued
this work in London as a freelance preparing English abstracts of articles in
German, French, and Spanish covering a variety of specialist subjects.

3.       For 3 years I
worked as an in-house translator into English for a translation company in
London. All my work was checked by experienced senior translators so I regard
this time as my apprenticeship as a professional translator. The source
languages were German, French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese and the
specialist subjects ranged from rolling mill technology to chemistry patents.

4.       For 4 years I
worked as the senior reviser for Oliver Translations Ltd., a company which I
started in 1986.. This company specialised
in life science translations. The translated documents involved hospital
reports, product information (SPCs, PILs and labelling), clinical trial
documentation (patient information and informed consent, clinical trial
agreements, ethics committee letters).

5.       I resigned as a
director of Oliver Translations Ltd. in November 2016 and since then no longer
work for this company in any capacity. For the last year I have been working as
a freelance translator and reviser for medical translation companies
specialising in German, French, Portuguese and Spanish to English (UK and US)
translations in the life sciences.
