Member of the Institute of Linguists.
While doing my PhD I spent ten months in Moscow researching for my subject (phonetics), from September 1968 to July 1969.
In 1968 I was the language coach for the first production of a Russian opera at Glyndebourne Festival Opera (Tchaykovsky's 'Eugene Onegin'); I was asked to come back for the second season, but by that time was in Moscow.
I taught languages from 1970 to 1998 (11-18 age group), and was Head of Modern Languages in an independent school from 1979 to 1998; this included teaching up to university and Oxbridge entrance. Until syllabuses changed this also involved teaching translation techniques.
Since starting as a freelance translator I have worked for a large number of organisations, companies, agencies and private individuals. (A list is available on request.) |
