Certified translations in Kuwait?

A client of mine has been asked to submit a certified translation of an extract from a patent's office into English.

Can anyone tell me more about this requirement from Kuwaitian authorities? Will they accept a certified translation made by e.g. a German translator who is state-authorized in translation from German into English?

The client has told me that the translation will be legalized afterwards.

Knowing that the 'certified translation' requirements/systems differ between countries, I wonder if anyone would happen to have knowledge in this area/this part of the world?

Certified just means that you attach a piece of paper saying that you certify that it's a true translation. I imagine that's the same the world over. You say it's being legalised afterwards, and the way in which that's done will vary from country to country.

thanks for commenting, Phil. Yes, I know about this, but not everyone does. I'm not so certain that it's only a 'certified' translation which is required as it's an authority requirement; usually authorities want something more official, e.g. like a sworn translation made by a state-authorized translator.

I'm state-auth. in DA-ES-DA here in Denmark, but the Danish legal system has this recognized term 'state-authorized' which means only people with this specific exam can produce legally binding translations. In the UK, the way to go around, as far as I have understood, is to have a translation agency do the translation and afterwards the general manager/legal representative of that translation agency issues a certificate on the quality of the translation.

But what is usually required in Kuwait when the authority says the applicant must produce a 'certified translation'? ▲ Collapse
