I don´t know if I am the only one, but what exactly is being asked here? I have not voted because clueless. | | | Muriel Vasconcellos (X) United States Local time: 03:34 Spanish to English + ... I'm confused, too | May 9, 2021 |
I voted "one" because I have only one business. My list of current and past clients is very long. Some are agencies and many are direct clients.

I suppose they mean Proz.com and the like.

I registered on several freelancer sites, translation platforms and associations when I started freelancing and I must say that the only one that has somewhat worked for me has been Proz.com. I’ve never heard a peep out of most of the others and the average rate on some platforms is usually much less than the average rate published here. My presence there is nothing more than a visiting card. | | | Samuel Murray Netherlands Local time: 12:34 Member (2006) English to Afrikaans + ... Rather vague question, but... | May 9, 2021 |

I assume the question is: At how many freelancer/translator portals/websites am I registered that are designed specifically to bring translators and clients together?
As many as I can, although 95% of contacts come via ProZ.com. I've only ever gotten a handful of clients via Translator's Cafe, and practically none from any others (e.g. Aquarius, Infomarex, Translator's Base, TraduGuide). ProZ.com is the only one at which I have a paid account, though.
I'm also registered at certain social media sites which can also lead to clients finding me (e.g. LinkedIn), but I suspect that those are not what the asker meant. Oh, and I'm registered on a number of agencies' own portals where project managers find me, so on the one hand those portals are all from one client but on the other hand the jobs I get are all from different contacts. And then there are online CAT tools and similar portals where I would not otherwise have thought of registering except after one client once asked me to (e.g. SmartCat), where I now also get jobs from other clients apart from the original one.
Added: Forum rules actually prevent us from mentioning these sites, but since this poll is specifically about such sites, I imagine it must be acceptable to mention them here, otherwise the discussion is going to be very wooly.

I am active in only translation agency right now, but I applied for several ones, with the hope of getting evaluated and pass their level tests.
In another one I am a volunteer and work from time to time, and in a third one I am completely new, so I am still waiting to get my first translation project there.

If they mean how many freelancer websites I am on, countless. But if they mean how many of them brought me work, none. (I don't count translation agencies vendor platforms). | | | neilmac Spain Local time: 12:34 Spanish to English + ...
Yet another poll where I can't tick any of the boxes. I visit proz mainly for kudoz and forums. I don't know of any other freelancer sites, and I don't rely on proz - or agencies, for that matter - for work. I currently have around 15 direct clients, about half of which are universities and related research institutions, and the rest are private businesses.
I work in my own office, which is in my own home.
As this is a site for linguists, it's a pity they couldn't phrase this poll question to make it comprehensible.

A meaningless and ambiguous question | May 10, 2021 |
This is a meaningless and ambiguous question.
As we can see from the discussion, everyone has their own understanding of "site" (as business, as site, as website, etc.), of "work", and of whether this website is for work. Is this website for work, by the way? Not for me, either.
I registered on three freelancer sites including Proz.com. The other two sites are not efficient like Proz. Proz.com is an excellent site for freelancers as well as translation agencies. I haven't got any offer to do translation from other two sites so far. So, I stopped visiting those sites. Proz.com is excellent and incomparable. The "web design" of the other two sites is horrible, so I lost my interest to visit them. | | | It certainly is meaningful | May 10, 2021 |

The question may be ambiguous. But it is not meaningless, rather it is meaningful and thought-provoking. I understood the intention and purpose of this question immediately. I don't know who authored this question, because it is not mentioned; but we have to appreciate him/her for having posted this question. Instead of finding fault with the phrasing of the question, one could have offered the alternative, exact, unambiguous and meaningful question. We have to consider the questions asked in Proz.com poll as just hints and excuses only. They are excuses so that we, the Proz.com members, could have a useful, meaningful, enlightening and important discussions around a topic or issue. Almost all the polls are beneficial to us.
