I imagine translators are a category of people who tend to fly a lot because we have many international connections.
Here are all the (trackable) flights in the world at this moment.
A lot of oil has to be extracted to power those aircraft, and they are emitting a lot of CO2

Have you?
PS Aeroplanes aren’t really the size of Wales.

Haven't flown since pre-covid | Jul 17, 2023 |
I care a lot about the environment. I went 20 years without a car, years without air conditioning ( I need it now for health issues). But my biggest concern with flying is that Covid still exists. Haven't seen my sisters in America since 2016.

The trouble with air conditioning is that it is making global heating worse because
(a) it requires so much electricity
(b) the inert gases (e.g. freon) that the cooling system uses are greenhouse gases.
So air conditioning is "dàrsi la zappa sui piedi" (shooting ourselves in the foot). For most of our 4000+ years of human civilisation we have known how to keep buildings cool without requiring electricity. We need to learn from our ancestors.
To misquote Mr. Mackey in South Park: flying is bad, mmmmk?

You are consuming goodies on a daily basis that were shipped by air freight.
Haven't flown since 2000. It's only really now that I are seeing translators talk about this.

This topic I'm posting is actually a test to see if it displays with blue highlighting.
So, let's all test it.
Here is an example of highlighted text using the mark tag.
This text is highlighted in yellow, using a span tag.
This whole paragraph of text is highlighted in yellow, using a style inside a p tag.
Added: So, none of these three methods work.
This text uses a font tag with colour and face.
Added: So, using HTML 3.2, font faces don't work here, but font colours do.

After watching (and, if truth be told, thoroughly enjoying) air crash disasters videos on Youtube a couple of years ago I gave up on the idea of flying. Not that I was a frequent flier before though.. In fact since taking up this accursed job (freelance translation) I've become completely immobile, housebound... I can safely say that this effing job did wonders to improve my 'ecological footprint'.

Correct. But what's really remarkable is that although 0 people have viewed my post, 8 people (so far) have replied.

Why are the blue highlights and views so relevant to you, especially the blue highlight? I don’t get it, trying to grasp the relevance here.

I used to have two flights per month from the year 2016 through 2019 when I worked at the Arctic on a rotation basis: one from my native town to Moscow, plus one from Moscow to the Arctic site, plus the same two flights backwards. Four in total, but considering that I had a 30-day shift (4 flights) and a 30-day rotational leave (0 flights), it gives 2 flights per month in average. However I enjoyed flying, it was beautiful.

I still fly, not because I'm a translator but because I have family and friends all over the world.
