Hi all
I hope there´s a technically versed person out there who can help me with a very easy solution to my problem.
Last night when I switched off my laptop the sound was still working and today I tried to watch a video (also tried tv) and there´s just absolutely no sound.
I´ve checked all the volume controls and they are all fully up.
Could I accidentally have changed something that prevents the sound from working?

Can someone maybe give me a clue what could have happened or did someone at some point encounter a similar problem and could provide me with the hopefully obvious solution? This is very odd indeed.

Try to mute and unmute your system
Jan 9, 2011
Did you just hibernate your laptop or switched it fully off, causing a system restart?
In the first case a system restart could also be helpfull.
Any headphones/external loudspeaker connected?

Hi Jerzy
Jan 9, 2011
I just hibernated the laptop, but that´s what I usually do and there never was any problem with the sound before.
There aren´t any headphones etc. connected, but I did try to connect headphones and they didn´t work either.
I will try a restart now, hoping that this will help.
I´m not sure if I understand what you´ve said about muting and unmuting the system? How do I do that?

Show at the volume symbol
Jan 9, 2011
right click it and select "Mute", then deselect this setting.
Sometimes this setting simply "hangs"

Restarting solves many issues

especially on laptops. Added bonus: it is cheap.
