Dear colleagues,

Dear colleagues,

I need your advice on securing interpretation jobs. With over 18 years of experience as an English/Russian-Azerbaijani interpreter and translator, I specialize in consecutive, whispered, and liaison interpretation (despite holding a degree in simultaneous interpretation, which I don't practice).

Since joining Proz.com in 2014, I've mainly been offered translation work, even though my focus is on interpretation. It seems the platform is more geared towards translation rather than interpretation, and I've struggled to find consecutive interpretation opportunities in Azerbaijan. The market here is tight, with jobs often distributed within a small network, making it hard for outsiders to break in. My time in the Czech Republic has also distanced me from local market dynamics, and as a freelancer, I find it challenging to navigate without strong local connections.

I aim to connect directly with potential clients. Any advice on how I might achieve this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help!

You have to decide on your audience/market- such as legal/ medical etc
1. Contact agencies who can get you jobs.
2. contact the courts ( Nakhchivan, Baku, Ganja, Sheki, Shirvan) if you think they can use your services or find their LSP.
3. contact big companies - like BP, equinor, Kapital Bank, Pasha Holding, Publicis group or find their LSP
4. If You are inclined towards healthcare and fluent in medical terms; then the following may be of interest

Bona Dea International Hospital, Baku. Ganja International Hospital, Ganja.
Republican Treatment and Diagnostic Center, Baku. Shusha Hospital, Shusha.

Marketing is a continuous effort- even if you are fully booked. You do not know when someone will drop off and you will need new clients.
