Unsubscribe from job notifications for some outsourcers only Thread poster: Christel Zipfel

It seems we can't block a single outsourcer from contacting us via ProZ. I have recently been receiving regular requests from an (Asian) outsourcer with insulting rates. Furthermore, they don't even bother to check my areas of expertise and send me job offers that I couldn't be less interested in (apart from the rest). I would consider this to be spam, definitely. This is particularly annoying.

So how can I stop them sending me these mails via ProZ (other than, maybe, contacting them through their provided email, if I am lucky)?? It seems there is no way to do this. One can only unsubscribe from all job notifications (or of course, tell your email programme that all mails coming from Proz.com-jobs are to be treated as spam). ▲ Collapse | | | expressisverbis Portugal Local time: 18:34 Member (2015) English to Portuguese + ... You can also do this in a quicker and more efficient way as follows:
If you are receiving spam in the form of a profile message you simply have to click on the link next to Unsolicited advertising? Spam? click here: line at the bottom of the email you received in your email inbox. If you are receiving spam as an instant message you simply have to click on the Report as spam button at the bottom of the message.
In both cases a support request will be automatically generated containing all the necessary information ProZ.com support staff needs to take appropriate action.
3.8 - How can I block a particular site user from sending me messages through my profile? [Direct link]
You can access your block list in the top drop-down menu select Profile mail settings from My communication settings. You can also click on the Settings tab in your profile, and select the Email preferences option.
You should enter the username or user ID of the user you want to block and press Update.
ProZ.com users or IP addresses specified in your block lists will not be allowed to send messages to you through your profile page. Your block lists override the general profile message preferences above. Note that because a great many Internet users have dynamic IP addresses, IP addresses will expire from your block list after a few days.
You can achieve the same results by clicking on the link after the line Block profile messages from this sender: in any profile message received from that user.
Any user in your block list who tries to send you a profile message will get the following error notification:
You are on this user's block list—he or she does not wish to receive mail from you.

Yes, I know how to block spam in certain cases. And I don't want to "report" spam either. I simply looked for the possibility to stop a single outsourcer to continue to send me those irritating mails via ProZ job notifications.
As the thread has been moved in the meantime to "ProZ suggestions" I think there is actually no way to do this. But it would be good idea to have one. | | | Zea_Mays Italy Local time: 19:34 English to German + ... profile message preferences page? | Aug 29 |
In most cases the senders have personal profiles from which they contact you.
On the message preferences page you are able to block single profiles, IP addresses, Blue Board IDs and domains ( https://www.proz.com/?sp=ef )

In your Email Preferences | Privacy policy | Privacy settings, I believe you can "Block" or "Blacklist" specific users/outsourcers or email addresses.
Add the email address or username of the outsourcer you wish to block.
Save your settings to ensure the outsourcer is blocked from contacting you.
If this doesn't work, I would reach out to ProZ.com support directly for assistance, by submit a support ticket explaining the situation.

I know how this can be annoying. Since yesterday I have received 3 emails from an (Asian) outsourcer asking my assistance in an AI task and being native in English!

A few weeks ago I had a longer interaction with site support regarding an outsourcer who keeps posting jobs that are not translation/interpretation jobs, and requested that they don't vet such offers, especially when the same ones are posted repeatedly. I was told that they changed their criteria for vetting jobs, and these jobs are now allowed, and they suggested that I block this specific outsourcer if I don't want to see their offers.

I copy here the instructions I received, in case it is helpful for anyone else:
"By the way, below I detail the ways in which you can prevent specific individuals or companies from contacting you through the site:
You can block a specific ProZ.com profile, Blue Board record, IP address or email domain from messaging you, here:
https://www.proz.com/?sp=profile&sp_mode=settings&sp_submode=ef
If you think that a company or profile is not likely to post jobs that are of interest to you, you can flag or filter notifications from specific profiles, companies or Blue Board records, here:
https://www.proz.com/dashboard/jobs/?sp_jobs_mode=flagsandfilters
A person's profile ID or a company's Blue Board ID is the number at the end of their profile or record's URL." ▲ Collapse | | | Experiencing the same problem as expressisverbis | Aug 31 |

If they contact me using an agency's ID, I can add the agency to the blocklist like Katalin mentioned above, but this does not work for individual IDs coming from the same agency. ▲ Collapse | | | It's annoying indeed! | Sep 1 |
I have now filtered the outsourcer in question following Katalin's instructions (thank you!). Not sure whether it will work, though, as I get the job "offers" through Proz.com-jobs which is the sender, and in this way it looks like if ProZ were spamming me (involuntarily of course), and not the outsourcer who never contacted me directly. In this latter case, it would be very easy to filter them. So I will see what happens. | |

Someone (the Asian outsourcer who asked my assistance in an AI task and being native in English) had been harassing me for the past week.
Yesterday, I decided to ask the staff to help me block the person, after my attempts to resolve the issue failed.
They solved the problem very effectively and quickly.
