I have no difficulty in getting back to the login page (autologin). I always go back there even from external pages and refresh the page to read the last postings.
But a problem comes when I have used the polling feature, then an error message appears, but when I click ok I get back home.
So I do not understand your problem, sorry. | | | Jack Doughty United Kingdom Local time: 04:25 Russian to English + ... In memoriam Make ProZ your browser home page | Dec 17, 2005 |
I do this, so the browser always opens at ProZ and I can get back to ProZ home page by clicking on the Home button. | | | Oliver Walter United Kingdom Local time: 04:25 German to English + ... Bear this in mind also | Dec 17, 2005 |

Whenever I dive deep into any web site (not just Proz) and wish to get back home, I just click on the link in my Favorites menu.
Beats backspacing, or even rolling down the backspace arrow, as Oliver suggests.

Another point that I am always aware of when I'm moving around among web pages is this:
Whenever you click on a link in a web page or enter a new URL in the address bar, the browser adds this to a "stack" or "queue" of URLs, the list that you see when you show the list next to the "back" button. Therefore, as long as you are navigating by clicking on URLs (or entering them directly) you are lengthening this list.
However, if you use that drop-down list to return to a previously displayed page, you are (as the browser sees it) returning to an earlier position in the queue. The queue items that you have just backspaced over are still available, and will show in the drop-down list next to the "forward" button. You lose this "forward" list if, having jumped back, you then click on a link (or enter the URL directly).
If you are in a web site that "knows" where you are and, for example, displays a "back", "next" or "home" button on a web page, clicking on that counts as adding to the list from the browser's point of view.
I'm not suggesting that either of these ways of navigating is necessarily "right" or "wrong", only that they have different consequences in terms of what the browser sees as your "queue of pages" and what you yourself, or the web site, may consider to be "next" and "previous".

If you erase what is after ".com", you're back in the Home Page.
Or maybe I didn't understand the problem?

That's exactly what I do (although I must admit that it took me at least a year of hitting the back button, refreshing the page, hitting the back button, refreshing the page etc etc until I thought of it)!! And, thank you for the tip, Jack. This is the quickest solution. I'll do that. ▲ Collapse | | | Related problems | Dec 19, 2005 |
Hi all,
I just wanted to bring two things to you attentions:

I have high speed access and even I find it too slow to reload the whole thing, so imagine how it is for less fortunate people in underdeveloped countries. Isn't there a way to just be able to go back to the results page without reloading it?
2. Agency/Freelancer searches. When I do a search in there, if I dare click on one of those results, then I am screwed, because if I click the back button, the results page times out. This is BAAAAD! I have to specify all my search criteria again, and if it was a very specific search, it may take up to a minute of fiddling to get the results again.
Also, did anybody notice that, when you use the Web Term Search, a popup comes up? I find it annoying. If Systran sponsors ProZ in any way, fine by me, but isn't there a way to incorporate their advertisement INTO the page, rather than having a popup pop up? I sometimes search for one term with different criteria, and have to close the friggin' popup three or four times a minute. I don't want to be cheap, but since I am a paying member of the site, I don't want to get popups. If I wanted popups, I would probably go to the "free" sites...
Anybody has an opinion on that last one? ▲ Collapse | | | Ralf Lemster Germany Local time: 05:25 English to German + ... Open link in new window | Dec 19, 2005 |
Hi Viktoria,
Why don't you open search results in a new window or tab? Right-click on the link, and choose the appropriate option from the context menu displayed.
Best regards,

A very good suggestion, Derek. I was going to bring this up
I'd love a "home" button on my profile page. It might be seen only in the owner's view, as Steven suggested, but personally I wouldn't mind it in the visitor's view, either.

My idea exactly.
When I land on my profile, I get the Owner's View.
A visitor only gets the Visitor's View.
There is no reason why there shouldn't be a link to the main page available in the Owner's View. Visitors will not see it, I shall.

Hi everybody!
What always brings me to the homepage is the ProZ.com logo in the top left corner of the webpage. I wouldn't mind having a ProZ.com logo on my profile page which could serve as a go-to-the-homepage button. I'm proud of being registered at ProZ.com. However, I understand Csaba's explanation =>

The ProZ banner is a great shortcut, Jo. It's a shame (and something of a surprise) that the banner doesn't appear at the top of the profile page -- it would make things so much simpler!
Now that I think of it, sometimes I go straight to my bookmarked profile page to do some editing, forgetting to log in first. A ProZ banner would enable me to detour for a moment to log in.

As for the back button, if your profile page happens to be the first page you browse to during a session, or if you've arrived there in a new window (or tab, in my case), the back button won't help, as you're at a point of no return.

Hi Derek,
Good suggestion.
For now Ive found these ways to get home:
Click link Ive saved on browser nav bar
Click any of the Edit links in profile, then ProZ banner
Forum tab/forum thread/banner
Portfolio tab/edit link/banner
Kudos tab/Edit notification/banner
Settings tab/Any link/banner
So basically as far as I can tell from your Profile if you click on any edit link you should get a page with the ProZ banner which will take you home. Or you could save a link to the homepage as a button on your browser nav bar, which will save scrolling through your favourites.

I just found a simple way to return home:
While editing your profile, place the following HTML code at the bottom of your Background text:
<a href="http://www.proz.com">Home</a>
This will place a link in your profile that will get you back to the ProZ.com home page every time.
Happy homecoming, everyone!

I meant to add that this solution will only suit those of you who don't mind visitors finding their way to the main site. I certainly don't mind. Besides, anyone viewing my profile would already know that they are looking at a ProZ.com listing, so they would have no difficulty finding the main site, anyway.
