In order to break the lines in Aegisub (and in most subtitle editors), you have to use "\N". Do no add spaces before or after it, as they count as characters.
Example:
What we have managed to do is\Nto raise funds for specific projects.
I hope this helps.

Jul 4, 2017
Hi Alejandra,
One last question is possible. How can I see then the word count of the second line? I seem to be able to see it just for the first one.
Much appreciated.

What you see is not the word count, but the character count instead. That number tells you the number of characters that the longest line of the subtitles has.

How to add a shortcut for line break in Aegisub?
Mar 10, 2022
Hey,
I can't find how to create a shortcut to insert a line break within a subtitle in Aegisub. It's quite cumbersome to manually type \N each time you want a line break...
Any clue on this?
Thanks!

I finally found the solution: the shortcut already exists and is shift+enter.

Short to breaking a line
May 10, 2024
Just click Shift key + Enter
Am I still struggling in knowing the character count per line. It seems Aigesub has no such a command.
