I am a UK resident translating from French to English (mainly legal text). Some of my French, Belgian and Swiss based agencies occasionally ask me to "stamp" my translation in the same way as "sworn translators" do in those countries.

We don't have that facility in the UK but I can provide translations accompanied by a sworn affidavit. The problem with this is that it can take time and extra expense and the original affidavit has to be posted back to the client.

Does anyone know whether the French embassy or consulate in London can give sworn translator status to a UK resident translator (e.g. in the same way as French courts do)?
