I am looking for an invoice software application for freelancers. There are many software but a few can handle multiple currencies, customizable invoice/quote forms and PDF printing. Other than TO 3000, what do you use now? Do you use web-sites providing invoicing services?

Currently my favorite is Fanurio but this one lack of customizable invoice/quote forms with professional look color scheme.

Hope we could share our experiences.

Best

Proz.com has one Dec 7, 2010

I find it adequate for simple invoicing, but have not been able to use the customizing features successfully.

I created my own Dec 20, 2010

Hi TNT

I have created my own DB program for project management & invoicing which goes by the name dsTransManager (dsTM). It is a self-contained, single-user HSQL database application for freelance translators based on OOo BASE (part of the OpenOffice suite). The functionality should be similar to (a stripped down version of) Translation Office 3000, plus you can set it up to project and calculate your annual income tax.

You can download a fully documented copy from my downloads page. If you like it, spread the word.

Try it here on Proz. Go to Tools > Invoicing. It's simple, but convenient. You can export to PDF, send reminders etc.

Online invoicing systems - a big No-No for me Dec 21, 2010

Call me paranoid, but I would be very careful about using any sort of online system for invoicing. My clients' information, as well as the details of our business relationship (that includes specific projects, prices, volumes, etc.) are considered confidential and disclosing them would be a breach of the NDAs I have with many of my clients.

With online systems you don't have control over what happens to the data you submit, sometimes even the submission channel is not secure, and after you upload all that info, you don't know who has access to it and how it may be used.

If you consider using one of those systems, think about it, read the company's privacy statement, notice any vagueness in it, and make a very careful decision. The convenience may be tempting, but the risks may outweigh that.

Hi TNT,

I agree with Katalin, web-based solution may subject to information abuse. It is too risky to expose your sensitive information to a third-party. The processing and storing of accounting information is still best confined within the owner premises.

Good Luck

I see you have Google Ads on that page... do you find that you get sufficient income from it to warrant placing it on your professional translators' web site?

The ads pay for hosting & domains, not more. I have actually considered taking them down, but I haven’t got around to that yet. Since Google changed the layout, the broad banner looks rather intrusive and ugly.
