Hi there!
Strange thing, but Skype (version 5.0.0.152) all of a sudden crashed on both of my machines (XP and W7) more or less at the same time. It is possible to restart, but it refuses to log on ever since. Anyone out there with the same problem?

I've had the same problem this afternoon with Sype v.3.8 and uninstalled it and installed v.5.0, with no better success. I think the problem must be at Skype's end.

I just tried starting skype, too, and it just keeps trying to log on (with the little arrows going around) but it's getting nowhere.

I'm glad you've opened this thread. Otherwise I would think it was only me.

I am using version 4.2 and have signed in with no problems.
I didn't know there was a version 5 BTW but it won't let me update just the now.
Interestingly though, the "test call" feature is marked as 'offline' so maybe Skype are having connectivity issues.
And my online status is showing up as offline/unavailable also.

which never happened before. I thought it was the new version I installed this week. Each time, it was possible to restart immediately, though. I see now that nobody of my contacts is online, but this may be a fortuity.

it seems that the problem persists | Dec 22, 2010 |
Let's hope that they will sort it out by tomorrow.
I am wondering what could be the reason - increased traffic due to Christmas, recent integration with Facebook (yet more traffic) or something else altogether? They did not have that kind of problems for over two years I believe.

My Skype client (2.8.0.851 for Mac) cannot connect either. The login works, but that's about it.
ETA: the page http://heartbeat.skype.com doesn't seem to load quickly - however and as per now, all services are indicated as "working normally"... which is quite strange given the fact that we cannot connect.

I have, however, other problems with my desktop computer, since skype crashed it does not connect to the internet at all (my laptop does) and the only programmes which work are the MS Office programmes. Trados cannot be opened, no error message, upon clicking on the icon it tries to open and then stops without opening. Network Center cannot be opened, system programmes cannot be opened. I have shut down the whole machine various times, disconnecting it from the current, switched the router on and off to no avail.
Anybody any idea?
I do not think that it could be a virus as I do not receive e-mails on this computer nor do I download stuff.
Ideas much appreciated
