: And it might be possible to omit "within the article" or somehow combine those two prepositional phrases: "in the article's limited space", or smething like that.

highly condensed ... [given the] space limitations
In view of your discussion entries, it seems it might work to ditch a literal translation altogether and say:
... a highly condensed bibliographical format ...
with or without, in the different instances, some additional phrase like "given [because of] the article's space limitations".

Once it's established, you could refer to it again as "the highly condensed bibliographical format" or even, perhaps, as "the 'shorthand' bibliographical format."

: But the asker said this refers to the bibliographical list. Also, referring to "space" is desirable, because "limited article" could also be a qualitative characterization.

"in an article limited on space"???
|
Discussion
The list approach allows for maximal information within a limited framework.
"provide maximum information within limited article's space"
and then it may be reffered to as
this (approach of) "concentrated information"
or
this approach to concentrate information
what all you think?
what
Is it referred to as an approach?
This approach of furnishing maximum information as space allows ??
Can you give us the other examples?
