2 Susan - misunderstanding? If you say "idiomatic English", it's occasionally misunderstood as being intended to mean "English using [a lot of] idioms" - as if the adjective were derived from "idiom" in its narrow linguistics sense of a particular type of figure of speech, as against being derived from "idiom" meaning the native cast of a language.

neutral Susan Welsh : The suggested phrase is not idiomatic English. It shows the pitfalls of trying to translate too literally. These phrases with преобретать are esp. challenging in this respect.
