verlan
Yes. Verlan is the closest equivalent. In Pig Latin one takes the first consonant, puts it at the end on the word, and adds -ay (pronounced like -ey in French. In Verlan one takes the first syllable and puts it at the end of the word.

Pig Latin, like verlan, does not have to be used for the entire sentence. Single words may be used, e.g., okay (from k.o., knockout), ofay (from foe). Javanais, like Miesurray is only used for entire sentences.

: I would go for javanais and not verlan. Verlan is not so much a code, whereas javanais is.

Pig Latin, like verlan, is not a code. It is merely taking the first cononant and putting it at the end of the word and adding -ay, similar to Verlan’s taking the first syllable and putting it at the end of the word. Javanais inserts syllables within it

: verlan: Comme tout argot, le verlan (inversion de l'envers), permet de marquer l'appartenance a un groupe particulier, de n'etre compris que des membres de ce groupe (dico Que-Amerique)

javanais !!
le javanais c'est :
Argot conventionnel consistant à intercaler dans les mots les syllabes va ou av (ex. chaussure « chavaussavurave)
(Définition du Robert)
Ok, it might be less used than verlan nowadays, but it was before verlan existed. You don't ad any letters in verlan, or hardly, whereas in javanais, you do.
The Grand Dictionnaire Larousse English French also gives javanais as translation.

Javanais is like a code, easy to decypher but is is.
Verlan is not a code (in my own opinion), it\'s a way of talking, \"fashionable\". Javanais is mostly used by kids, verlan is used by youth wanting to \"fit in\" and to be different.

: No, Javanais is more like Miasurray, which inserts ias befor the first vowel.

Then both are some kind of codes. Verlan is NOT a code. you can use one verlan word in a totally normal sentence. For Javanais it applies to ALL words, like pig Latin.

Helene Diu
: Seems more appropriate than verlan which is definitely some fashion language ("l'envers" des mots, like the name itself says) and not a language game or code
