European Commission Communication on Judicial Training
On 29th June 2006, the executive branch of the EU adopted a communication on “Judicial Training in the European Union.” This document recalls that the development of a European judicial area requires legal professionals to continuously update their knowledge. As the situation demands the increased circulation of judgments in Europe, it is essential to enhance mutual knowledge of judicial systems among judicial authorities in order to foster genuine mutual confidence. In this regard, judicial training can play a key role and the EJTN is recognised as a central partner at the EU level in this domain. The Network will thus benefit from a substantial increase in its logistical and financial resources, but at the same time, it must also be in a position to respond to new ambitions expressed by the European institutions. In this regard, the Strategic Plan of the Network, which is currently being developed, will be an extremely valuable tool.

Ο έλληνας αναγνώστης θα είχε σαφέστερη εικόνα όλων αυτών αν δεν σκόνταφτε κάθε τόσο στη μετάφραση. Μεταξύ πολλών ατοπημάτων, το κράτος δικαίου (rule of law) έχει αποδοθεί ως «κανόνας του νόμου», η εκτελεστική εξουσία (executive branch) ως «εκτελεστικός κλάδος» και το Τμήμα Πολιτικής Επιστήμης (Department of Government) του Πανεπιστημίου του Χάρβαρντ ως «τμήμα διακυβέρνησης». Στην ελληνική έκδοση δεν αναφέρονται ούτε ο αρχικός τόπος έκδοσης του έργου ούτε ποιος ήταν ο ξένος εκδότης (Simon and Schuster). Ο υπότιτλος στο εξώφυλλο του πρωτοτύπου (The Challenges to America's National Identity) έχει αντικατασταθεί από τον υπότιτλο H αμερικανική ταυτότητα στην εποχή μας. Στο τέλος έχει παραλειφθεί το εξαιρετικό ευρετήριο του πρωτοτύπου. Πέρα από αυτά, πολύ θετικά στοιχεία στην ελληνική έκδοση είναι η απουσία τυπογραφικών λαθών και η προσθήκη από τη μεταφράστρια πολλών υποσημειώσεων που διευκρινίζουν γεγονότα ή όρους της αμερικανικής ιστορίας και πολιτικής.
