Russian term

информационный эффект

Russian to English Social Sciences Government / Politics
Just checking if anyone knows of a set term before I go with the obvious "informational effect."

Уж мало кто из аналитиков, политологов, социологов не высказался в том смысле, что важнейшим признаком терроризма являются не жертвы, а информационный эффект.

From an article on terrorism.

Example sentence:

It is often claimed that terrorist acts are mostly committed because of their media impact

it can even be suggested that there is a simple equation relating size of damage to media effect; the greater the damage, the greater the media impact

power to sway public opinion

You could use the literal translation. Looking at the greater context (http://www.altruism.ru/sengine.cgi/13/24?page=&print=1>), I'd suggest something like "power to sway public opinion".
