Driving Aug 10, 2007

Hi John,

I'd love to participate but I am from India and don't have a French Driving licence. Is it still ok?

I guess it is a good opportunity to see this region.

Thanks a lot for organizing it.

Ritu

drivers license... Aug 10, 2007

Hi Ritu, that's a good question... you'll have to check to see if your Indian drivers license is valid in France. Otherwise, there are two people for each car so you don't have to drive, you can ride shotgun.

Getting to Nice Aug 10, 2007

Hi Ritu,
Since you're going to be at the conference, it would be a good idea to bring this up now...
I'm going to be driving back to Nice from Aix on Saturday night after the conference. I have room for three people to head back to Nice with me. You won't have enough time to leave Aix on Sunday morning (2-hour drive, 3 to 4 by train). So you should plan on staying in Nice on Saturday night. I have a special room rate negotiated at a 3-star and 4-star hotel in the city center, right

I have a special room rate negotiated at a 3-star and 4-star hotel in the city center, right next to the soon to be completed tram, and may negotiate another rate with a 2 star.
So let me know if you want to come back with me to Nice or if anyone else is planning to make the drive on Saturday night from Aix, if they have room to spare in their vehicle. Save the planet--carpool!

Thanks John Aug 10, 2007

Hi John,
Thanks for the offer. I hope it wouldn't be too much of a problem if I accompany you till Nice.

Regarding the Drivers' licence, I know that it's not valid in France. I've already stayed in France for some time... and last time it was not valid.

Also, you drive on the "wrong" side.

I hope you don't mind. Sorry to be such a bother.

Thanks again,

Ritu

Any thoughts about an itinerary? Aug 14, 2007

Great, so far it looks like there will be at least five of us. Now, is there anything in particular you'd like to see? We could do the circuit we've done before which is rather breathtaking (between Nice and Menton, sea and mountains) or head across the Var, up into the mountains, stop by a local candy-making factory in Pont du Loup, art galleries in St Paul de Vence, la fondation Maeght, Gordon (... What do you think?

Itinerary Aug 29, 2007

No special requests. I don't know the area very well, having only passed through on the motorway a few times! No idea of the distances or driving time involved in doing everything you suggest, so we'll leave it to you to conjure up a heady mixture of breathtaking scenery and the odd visit or two to some unspoilt places! Gordon does sound appealing as one of the "plus beaux villages de France".

Headcount Oct 24, 2007

Please let me know how many you will be. I'm pretty sure Marie and Moira are both bringing someone else. That makes 8 with me, Anna, Claire, and Colin. Am I forgetting anyone? It'd be a tight squeeze in the trunk/boot...

The mercedes is an automatic but handles really nicely. It's one of my favorites! I'll let Francis know about the cars...
