I need to count Thai characters from a PDF file. After some research on the Internet, I tried to use programs like CountAnything, Translator's Abacus, Freebudget 4 and few more but without success. Either word counts equals 0 or the file cannot be read...

Does anyone have any experience in this? How can it be done? Is there a way to convert PDF in Thai to Word so I could use character count option in Word's preferences?

Thanks for any suggestions and help.

Abbyy FineReader Oct 30, 2012

You can try to convert the PDF to Word file by using Abbyy FineReader. It should work, but the result also depends on the quality of the original PDF file.

MS Word Jun 8, 2017

MS Word is the most reliable software for Thai I am handling.
For "dead texts PDF," I use OCR, copy and Paste to MS Word.
For "searchable PDF," I just copy and Paste to MS Word.
It is very handy for my.

As a personal discovery now, I find that OCR of Foxit Phantom PDF 9.0 works well with special characters and grammar of the Thai language. It can save my time widely to count Thai characters.
