One page Mar 8, 2018

And IMHO 1 page is enough. I could spin it out with all sorts of further references and BS, but why bother? As the saying goes, 'Never mind the quality, feel the width' ...

I don't have a CV Mar 8, 2018

For the simple reason that I am not straight out of college and job hunting.

However, I do have a CB or 'Capabilities Brochure' that highlights my skills and areas of expertise and provides clients with a wide range of information that helps them decide how I can help them and their company, as well as showcasing several large projects that ended successfully and why they were successful.

Feel free to cut and paste Mar 8, 2018

Here's a handy CV template I thought I'd share:

Name: Chris
Address: c/o ProZ
Born: Yes
Degree: Yes
Freelance translator since 1993

Based on my experience at school, this will spread over four pages if you write big enough.

Before political correctness decreed that the hitherto purely grammatical term "gender" should be used to mean "sex", and that nobody should want to know it anyway, before "Born: Yes", you might have added - "Sex: Yes please" (or "No thanks" according to preference.)

covert letter -> CV -> test #1 -> interview -> test #2 Mar 8, 2018

Now I mostly work as an interpreter, but earlier I had an abridged (a page long) and a full version of my CV (some four pages with a photo). I used the traditional 'cold contact' protocol, yet by chance I found out that a portfolio worked even better for me...

Yes, I really should have squeezed that in

I always thought the old answer was "Twice a week" (or whatever).

For 20 years, I used a two-page long CV. In Brazil, we are instructed not to make long CVs with many details.
However, since 2013, I made a new version of my CV, specifically for translation jobs, which includes major projects, clients, agencies, and more details about professional experiences and areas of expertise. First of all because the culture of summarized resumés does not apply to most countries where I have clients. On the contrary, they enjoy detailed CVs. Secondly, because peo

First of all because the culture of summarized resumés does not apply to most countries where I have clients. On the contrary, they enjoy detailed CVs. Secondly, because people always ask for this type of information/detail. Since I added them to the CV, I lost a lot less time replying sequential e-mails, since the potential clients don't have to ask for them anymore.
But I still have the two-page traditional CV for clients in Brazil and other places where they are preferred.

2 and heavily hyperlinked Mar 9, 2018

It was kind of representing a whole to make a 2pg CV, looks nice even on both-sided print. But I'm not strictly commited to that format. I wish I could sublime it like NeilMac always does. I'm not fully satisfied with my CV's current state, but the good thing about the CVs is that they always change

Difference between résumé and CV Mar 11, 2018

I send out a 1-page résumé to potential clients. In the past, when applying for grants, I used a full academic-style curriculum vitae, which was about 10 pages.
