Yes, but only rarely Mar 18, 2018

It doesn't happen often. I remember getting very tired of a 200-page manual that was quite repetitive. What I think I minded most was the constant formatting challenges. Manuals are not my favorite thing because they usually have lots of boxes and fancy formatting.

Usually I try to get big points first, yet sometimes it gets rather boring to 're-read' it.
That's why I prefer just to skim over the project and find "new" things while translating.

Furthermore, switching to other translations also works as an entertainment or a rest--even proofreading could do)

Yes, very occasionally Mar 18, 2018

My first reaction was to say an emphatic NO but after 40 years I must admit that I have been bored a few times, mostly when I was a sworn translator and had to deal with endless birth certificates, driving licenses and the like! It seems to me I have (almost) forgotten about that…

I’m not easily bored and of course some projects are more interesting than others, but overall the good bits far outweigh the boring or annoying ones!

Yes, often Mar 18, 2018

Very often, in fact. If the subject matter is mundane and unchallenging, of course I'm going to be bored. Thankfully, I don't do it as a full-time job.

The subject material is not written by me, but my someone else, and therefore I have no control over the content other than it being in my chosen language pair and within my area of expertise. Of course I get bored on certain projects because the content and quality are out of my control.Collapse

Yes, bored and angry Mar 19, 2018

Several projects are very boring, poorly written or too repetitive. Many have lots of tables and numbers, many are games for children or adolescents with many stupid things, and many are simply boring topics.
But worse than the ones that are "boring" are the ones that make you angry. Along the years, I have learned to refuse jobs from accademics and student papers, even if I really need money.

Oh yeah Mar 19, 2018

Those, who traditionally offer "repetition" discounts, more often feel distressingly bored and annoyed, especially when they know the payment would be some $400 for a project $4000 worth...
