Never, because I need to be connected to an electricity supply to power my laptop. However, when I was a student I used to take my books outside to study quite frequently during the summer months.
There are too many distractions outdoors. I prefer to have a rest outdoors rather than work. | | | neilmac Spain Local time: 23:38 Spanish to English + ...
In the summer, when the temperatures can be well over 30°, I can work indoors in the morning and most of the afternoon, but by nightfall the heat indoors can be unbearable, so I set up a PC outdoors on the terrace where it's cooler. I have a full-size computer workstation out there, and it only takes me about five minutes to set up the PC screen and keyboard. My house Wi-Fi also reaches there, and I have an extra long cable for the modem I can take outside if need be.

The only problem is that the light from the screen attract insects, but I usually have a couple of lamps and candles elsewhere to distract them. ▲ Collapse

Unless you consider my sunny terrace as outdoors, I do occasionally take my laptop and work there but I work best indoors at my desk surrounded by my dictionaries and reference books, even if I haven’t opened some of them for a long time… | | | Debora d'Amato (X) Italy Local time: 23:38 English to Italian + ...

The climate here in West Cornwall is far too wet, windy and generally unpredictable to make translating outdoors practical or pleasant.
We've had exceptionally glorious weather here for the last month and I take breaks in the garden as often as possible (when I'm not watching the world cup, of course). | | | B D Finch France Local time: 23:38 French to English + ... Depends what work | Jun 15, 2018 |
I prefer to translate indoors, because the light levels outside are too bright to see the screen properly and I also prefer to use my desktop PC rather than my laptop. However, I print out files on paper for proofreading and do like to do my proofreading outside in the garden when the weather is good. In the summer, it's often too hot outside during the day, so I prefer to work in a cool part of the house.

There's been some recent research showing that spending time outside reduces the risk of developing short-sightedness, though that's mainly for children and I've always had a tendency to long-sightedness. However, that's another reason to work outdoors when one can. ▲ Collapse

In summer when it is not too hot I occasionally take my laptop outside and work in the shade of a market umbrella in my green and lush backyard. The laptop easily picks up the WiFi from my study and there is a powerpoint to plug into when necessary.

Except, if there is something lengthy to read I might, if the weather is nice, take it to the balcony and read it there. | | | Vi Pukite United States Local time: 14:38 Latvian to English + ...
If it's not raining here in Oregon, it's about to, all year round. But the green growing things love it, and I love looking out at them.

I live in a busy neighborhood so it'll be extremely counterproductive. Funny enough I enjoy background noise while working but I can't tolerate the amount of noise outside.

I use a desktop, have two large monitors going with other resources nearby. Trying to duplicate this outdoors can't be done. I did bring my laptop out on the balcony once for some correspondence. The sunlight made it hard to see the screen. How do you guys who go outdoors circumvent that? | | | Mario Freitas Brazil Local time: 19:38 Member (2014) English to Portuguese + ...
I have a very well set working station. Laptops are not adequate for working. When I go outdoors I want to relax, not to work. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: How often do you take your work outdoors?
