The only services I offer are translation, editing and transcreation. No client of mine has ever asked for web design work, but if the need does ever arise my architect daughter (and associate) knows how to work with all that stuff...

I am a translator.
It takes all my time to keep up with my languages and keep an eye on my specialist areas etc.
Web design is a separate specialism, if it is done properly, not just something you do on the side. It also calls for specialist software, which I don´t have, and it would not be worth the investment for me to buy it and spend time learning to use it.
(I have trouble enough with alternative CATs!)

"Applied"

Applying it may be a bit vague. I do have experience building websites as an amateur, though I see myself as more of a programmer (functionality) than a designer (appearance). I have applied it to my work in the sense that it has made me familiar with programming practices and markup languages and conventions, which has let me spot issues in source files and suggest fixes to clients, automate certain tasks on HTML files that weren't getting processed correctly by an agency's tool and work around... I have applied it to my work in the sense that it has made me familiar with programming practices and markup languages and conventions, which has let me spot issues in source files and suggest fixes to clients, automate certain tasks on HTML files that weren't getting processed correctly by an agency's tool and work around the limitations of poor interface design and tag handling in an agency's in-browser translation platform by going into the page source to more efficiently access and programmatically edit certain pieces of text. It has definitely been an asset and a time saver, but I have never advertized myself as a web designer per se or been hired to do that sort of work specifically.
So yes I suppose I've applied the skills I learned from it in my translation work, but really just the programming and coding parts, not the designing. ▲ Collapse

Non-linguistic related
Jan 24, 2019
I see the ‘web design’ as a non-linguist related profession. Although it is beneficial to have the skills of such, but, it may be either time consuming to learn the art of web design while the individual is focusing on his/her industry. Notive users of web design may pose a risk as the website developed by them may look an unprofessional.
