I translated erotic content, actually it was porno for a magazine. At the end of the stories, my name was written.
I have never translated adult or erotic content. If my memory serves me right, I believe I was contacted only once and I refused it as I wouldn’t be comfortable working on such a project. | | | Baran Keki Türkiye Local time: 20:26 Member English to Turkish What a question | Jul 13, 2022 |
I can understand why a certain Turkish-German actress who played in Game of Thrones and some other critically acclaimed films would want to hide her earlier hardcore career in her CV, but why would a translator specializing in that particular 'genre' want to hide such projects? It's not like a 'young' financial translator would agree to do porn (translation) for money when fallen on hard times.

Individual jobs in CV ??? | Jul 13, 2022 |
Including individual jobs (any jobs) in your CV, IMHO is a sign of being VERY new in this game, unless it was for Microsoft, Apple or similar. Anyone with less than 10 k jobs under their belt reading this? | | | John Silva Brazil Local time: 14:26 English to Portuguese + ...
I have not had such opportunity before, but professionaly, if the rates are good I can accept it. I just do not know about incluiding it in my CV. I think I would pass that...
I don't translate that kind of texts. I was asked a couple of times but I told the agency it was not within my field of expertise.
The same with subtitling horror movies.

I don't think a list of projects belongs in a CV, except maybe some really big and well-known ones.
On the other hand, if erotica were one of my core subjects, I would certainly mention it. | | | If they credit their translators.... | Jul 13, 2022 |
I mean, if they credit me, sure.
I've only subbed for a colleague on an ongoing project like that though. Not enough for credits or even mentioning it in my portfolio.
But I would refuse the job altogether depending on the kind of porn. No non-con. | | | expressisverbis Portugal Local time: 17:26 Member (2015) English to Portuguese + ...
I don't need to include any type of translated content in my Bio or CV.
For that purpose, I have my website where I specify my translation fields and the type of documents I translate.
Regarding adult or erotic content, there are other fields, such as animal testing (even if it is for clinical benefit), or light and heavy weaponry (even if it is for defence) that I would decline.

But if a translator is specialised in this type of content, and aims to stand out for marketing reasons, I see no harm in including it in his/her Bio or CV.
It's an area of translation like any other. ▲ Collapse | | | neilmac Spain Local time: 18:26 Spanish to English + ...
I no longer have to submit my CV to potential clients, or anyone else, really.
However, if my circumstances were different, and I had done that kind of translation before, I would have no qualms about including it in my resumé, where appropriate, were the occasion to arise.

But if I did, and I started doing so regularly, I would.
I have not included it on my c.v., but I have mentioned by way of introduction that I once translated a very short book (a monograph, I guess) on the history of burlesque in the US. Without kidding myself that it's high art, I did find it fascinating. I wonder whether I'd feel the same about working with other grades of erotic content, and I'd certainly think twice about advertising it. | | | Erotic Content, Of Course/Porno, No Way | Jul 13, 2022 |
Since most human beings have enjoyed erotic experiences in their lives at one time or another (in other words, it's a fact of daily life/human experience, anyway). Esp. since the drag-her-by-the-hair caveman behavior has mostly disappeared in this day and age, and as long as the translation is done with the kind of artistic finesse that describes a mutually gratifying and beautiful experience. I would never get involved in translating any pornographic literature, esp. since the research seems to show that those who make use of that kind of media will often commit a sex crime, in one form or another, right after the consumption of that kind of vile garbage. One of the most powerfully written books I have ever translated, though, was about the extreme psychological reactions/emotional torment of a couple whose 5-year-ol daughter was kidnapped from their back yard and forced to become a part of a pedophilia ring. While the book did not go into any explicit detail (thank goodness) about what would have been the little girl's horrific experiences after she was kidnapped, her father, in the opening paragraph of the book, who, since he had become aware at one point about what had happened to her, and because he has just learned that her captors have killed her, is just about ready to jump to his own death from the 102nd floor of the Empire State Building in New York City, onto the sidewalk below. Certainly a very effective way of immediately riveting the eyes and mind (why is that guy going to carry out such a drastic, deadly, and irreversible action) of the reader, and compelling her/him to keep reading! Even though there will always be a few who can't handle these kinds of harrowing, emotionally charged scenes, and will decide to close the book forever, unable to get through that crucial, initial paragraph.
