Hi everyone (and especially Dan Lucas)!
I don't know if you have noticed it yet, but dictating into the latest version of Notepad on Win11 is excruciatingly slow. And there is a similar problem when dictating into memoQ, however this is slightly different as it more do to memoQ's autocomplete system getting in the way of the text being inserted by Talon.

I asked about this recently in the Talon Slack channel (@ https://talonvoice.slack.com/archives/C7ENXA7C4/p1719143750272329 ) and it can be solved easily.
You basically just need to put a few little text files in your Community repo folder and after that anything you dictate gets inserted all at once, rather than one word at a time, which can cause the slowdown.
Just download this folder:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qoDeIQQR-EI3aehmcfEecV4oGb77Xyw5/view?usp=sharing
... and put its contents here:
C:\\Users\\[username]\\AppData\\Roaming\\talon\\user\\community\\apps
which will give you:
C:\\Users\\[username]\\AppData\\Roaming\\talon\\user\\community\\apps\\notepad\\[with two text files]
C:\\Users\\[username]\\AppData\\Roaming\\talon\\user\\community\\apps\\memoq\\[with two text files]
This will considerably speed up dictating in both Notepad (the newest version on Win11) and memoQ!

This solution seems to be a workaround for users of Talon, a voice recognition software.
It's interesting that the issue affects both Notepad and memoQ, albeit slightly differently.
The solution appears to be relatively simple to implement, which is good news for affected users.
It would be helpful to know more about what these text files contain and how they modify Talon's behavior.

It might be worth checking if this is a known issue with Talon or Windows 11, and if there are any official updates or patches addressing it. ▲ Collapse | | | Michael Beijer United Kingdom Local time: 05:33 Member (2009) Dutch to English + ... TOPIC STARTER

I'm a long time user of Dragon SR and memoQ. I found early on that SR and Autocomplete aren't compatible. If you're dictating entire sentences, what do you need Autocomplete for? | |

I definitely need Autocomplete, since I work with a mixture of methods:
• speech recognition (dictation in Dutch and English)
• voice commands (in English)
• keyboard shortcuts
• AutoHotkey scripts and shortcuts
• and maybe even more
After adding the little bit of code I mentioned in my original post, I can now dictate perfectly in memoQ, while leaving Autocomplete activated!
Basically, what it does is tell Talon to insert the complete dictated text in one go, instead of word by word, which is what trips up the Autocomplete system. I will make a screencast if I have a moment to show you what I mean. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » How to drastically speed up dictation with Talon into memoQ and the new Notepad on Win11 CafeTran Espresso | You've never met a CAT tool this clever!
