File is in the German language, and my task is to translate it to English.
it it a huge task for any normal convetional translator, and my thoughts are as follows: split the file into 100 chunks and then translate these chunks.
Now im looking for a good translator solution, that could "manage" to translate huge chunks of files like that ... any recommendation to a software both paid and or free is highly appreciated.
If this question has been here before im sincerly sorry, and i apologize in advance...
Thank you and have a nice day,

99.999% of all files are a combination of words and some numbers, and theoretically you can use any CAT tool for translation. So you need to be more specific about your file, it is advisable to provide a detailed description (what log file? from what software/website? what is the purpose of such translation (as log files aren't normally translated)? Can you post a small example?
Have you tried importing it into your normal CAT tool?
If so, what problem did you have that you are trying to solve?
I agree with Natalie that we need more information if we are going to help.
Hi Nike,
I'm not sure I fully understand the issue, but if you are looking for recommendation of a CAT tool to help you with this translation job, try using Smarcat. It's free and you use it on your browser, no need for dowloading the software.
I hope this helps!

Within minutes of opening this anonymous account, nikephoros1 posted a vague enquiry concerning the use of CAT tools to translate very large ‘log file’ from German to English.
So far, the OP has not responded to colleagues’ requests for more information about the file.
To protect myself from a perceived risk of becoming an accomplice in an illegitimate activity, and before sharing my suggestions here on a public forum, I would need to know:
- Who is nikephoros1 ?
- Who is the legitimate owner of the 'log-file' in German?
- Does the nikephoros1 have the legitimate owner’s authorisation to translate the file into English?
- Does the file contain any data that falls within the scope of the GDPR?

I agree with Natalie: any CAT tool can handle this file in one go. You just have to tell the CAT tool how to segment the file.
How to segment a file (and how to program the CAT tool to segment correctly), depends on the CAT tool itself. There is on average 110 characters per line. You could probably just segment by paragraph break.
A log file will also contain strings that do not need to be translated. You can specify those strings as placeables/untranslatables in the CAT tool, which will speed up the translation because the translator doesn't have to retype it.

Nike, I don't think anyone can offer much actionable advise unless you tell us more about this log file: what application generated the log file, whether the file contains operators such as /r, /n or /t, and the purpose of the log file: to troubleshoot an application, an operating system, etc.
Such a massive log file may not require a full translation. I would get back to the client and ask the above questions before proceeding. Chances are a German-speaking software engineer could determine which parts are worth translating, depending on what's being troubleshooted.
