Complete bullocks, but it's only to my personal benefit that translators keep on believing (or even experiencing) that. So please, go ahead!

Cutting the revenue, for sure Oct 13

In my language pair, the revenue will be cut to the point it makes no sense to even start discussing it.

It’s also a tedious and mind-exhausting job. Also not sure what to add to my CV in the future: “I was correcting machine output”, that won’t impress anyone and won’t tell anything about my skills.

Some people call it a “skill”. It’s as much of a skill as correcting papers of students that are not particularly talented. Most teachers avoid this part of

Some people call it a “skill”. It’s as much of a skill as correcting papers of students that are not particularly talented. Most teachers avoid this part of their job (correcting and grading papers) as it’s more exhausting than any other part, but those who accept do it, don’t call it a “skill”.

...delivering MTPE top quality within a profitable time frame is defintely a skill. The reason why is quite simple: it's impossible without a lot of practice.

Question of language combination Oct 13

It might stronly depend on the language combination, don't you think?

... for some. But I see no reason to believe Dutch would be some kind of exception. Anyway, if Dutch would be "special", so would German be.

Dutch is a smaller language (re. supply). I used to work as a project manager, and we would commonly find a German supplier within 1 day, whereas for Dutch, it would take us weeks.

No, but yes Oct 13

It does cut revenue in half, but does not require twice the effort.

I was talking about the quality of the machine translation output, because I thought that was what Ines meant.

The way the question is formulated.

I’d like to make a distinction between “effort” and “mental dumbing/exhaustion”.

I thought she meant you could discuss the price in your favor, if there were not many competitors.

Depends Oct 13

MTPE well done (meaning the agency adheres to the related ISO standard) and used for suitable topics allows for MORE productivity and MORE revenue than through classic translation - this is my experience.
Adding: The rate must be fair too. The average is 2/3 of your translation rate.

That's not how it works. We have a smaller population, so domestically competition is as fierce as anywhere else. And my rates are the same for domestic and foreign customers. I make no distinction.

Running MTPE rate in my language pair is $0.01. That fair?
