Puntura <---> Puncture. "Puntura" in Italian is a shallow wound caused by the penetration of a short and thin tip, i.e. a needle or pin, a bite of a mosquito etc.. It can also be an injection of some medical drug. Although, the English language has partly the same meaning, but "puncture" in Cycling is also a small hole in a tire resulting in an escape of air. In Italian Cycling terminology we say "foratura" or "bucare", we don't use "puntura". However, the UCI prefers the term "foratura" for the races, while in common everyday cycling language both terms are used.
