So everything will then be machine translated/interpreted. A genuine robot scenario straight from some Sci-Fi movie.
Good Luck ;) | Oct 20, 2010 |
I really want to see how the system will work with different pronunciations, dialectal expression and people (happened to me while interpreting on the phone) which mix up languages and in reality invent their own, inexistent, language (these are not rare cases either!)

It's going to provide tons of lovely fodder for jokes...
What will they do with a country like Germany, where the dialect changes every five miles?

Are we translators scared by google translator?? Can it does the work we do every day? Everyone who tried to use it can say google translator is NOT a real translator. Neither will be google interpreter...for sure.

These machine translators are indeed good for a chuckle or two. Especially when they leave words unknown to it/them... untranslated.
Says it all, no?

So that's the final destiny of human beings -- to become robots. To be easily translated and even interpreted!

This should be fun, I would love to be there on the first board meeting Google interprets in, say. Belgium, (Pun intended, no insult.) They have so many dialects there, and THREE national languages. I don´t know for sure, but I would think even human interpreters may have a difficult time there. You will need two robots, one to interpret the meeting, and one to interpret the 1st robot. R2D2 and 3CPO are a good example.
