Actually, Marc is perfectly right and I'm wrong — as Asker has completelty clearly stated, this is NOT the same as a blank, but is a round that is designed to be VISUALLY convincing, but not to actually fire at all.

I won't withdraw this answer, but I'm clearly describing the reverse situation to the one wanted here.

Balle/obus factice

Une balle à blanc ne contient-elle pas de la poudre, sans projectile. Une balle factice pourrait contenir le projectile sans la poudre, donc sécuritaire et plausible pour le tournage. Mais "round" ne se traduit-il pas par "obus"? Termium associe "factice" dans plusieurs cas: "dummy round", "dummy rifle", etc.

J'ai suivi cette... trajectoire puisque Axelle531 a précisé: "dummy is a real bullet without any powder". Une scène pourrait exiger de voir la balle (dans une "cartouchière", par exemple).
