He won't go easy on anyone, and only cares about winning, and making sure his Pokemon don't lose. He only fratrunizes with a decent opponant, and all others ...

Ozhegov`s Dic:
не давать спуску: (разг). - не прощать, не оставлять без наказанияб выговора какое-н. упущения, вину, проступка.

the expression "не давать спуску" is also rather old fashioned and can be used only for very informal emotional speech for instance by grandmothers and grandfathers tenderly scolding teenagers (not rudele, but rather lovingly.

Note from asker:
It's a valid expression, but rather old fashioned. It's most commonly used of soldiers in battle. |

: "to give no quarter"- to fight back, to stand your ground/"phrase"; the text tells about a little girl/boy, not a teacher

But in my opinion, that corresponds to the meaning of the Russian frase:не прощать, не оставлять без наказания, выговора какое-н. упущения, вину, проступка (Ozhegov`s Dic).

This is the definition given in Lubensky's R>E Dictionary of Idioms and it seems to fit the limited context

: I'm afraid this term is too stretched, too ambiguous and too widely used.Generally-you are absolutely correct.

There isn't a lot more context that's relevant. Does this help? V klasse nikomu spusku ne dajet, poetomu i drusej malo, chego ne skagesch ob Ukraine. Do sich por pisma drug drugu pischut. |

I am thinking of her as being like Hermione Grainger in the Harry Potter books.
