The first Nottingham powwow will be held on 29 September from 3 pm.
I have now found a great pub in the stylish Lace Market area of the city: The Kean's Head, 46 St Marys Gate, NG1 1QA. It's down a quiet side street and seems a cosy, civilised sort of place with great drinks and food should we need a snack.
For a map and review, check out: http://www.myvillage.com/nottingham/restaurants-reviews-keans-head.htm
Closest parking is probably the multistorey above the Broadmarsh bus station/shopping centre.
To get to the pub come out of the shopping centre, turn right uphill, cross the road/tramlines opposite La Tasca (a Spanish restaurant), head past the big church that is now a Pitcher & Piano bar and keep walking for a couple of mins until you reach a narrow left turning at a hotel - that road is St Mary's Gate. The pub is a little way up on the left.

Time?
Sep 3, 2007
Hi all, Thanks to everyone whose signed up so far. In response to Neil's question, yes we could easily start a bit later. What time would suit people best? Best regards, Sarah

Personally I can be fairly flexible about time, but starting late in the evening may cause travel problems for those coming from further away, and bars would be getting noisier. So I would have thought it would be a mistake to start any later than, say, 6 p.m. (and is even that too late for people who want to get home by train that night?) Neil doesn't actually say what time he could manage - it might be helpful if we knew that.

Armorel makes a good point - the 'stylish Lace Market area' becomes considerably less stylish after about 8.00 p.m.! It's probably better if I try and re-jig my commitments rather than inconvenience everyone else...

Jolly good Neil, I'm sure we'll be around for a while. And yes Nottingham on a Saturday night is a little 'lively'!

Do bring partners, friends, etc.
Sep 19, 2007
Hi Jennifer and all, Please do feel free to bring your husbands/wives/partners/friends/relatives (maybe not pets though, not sure on the Kean's Head policy there) - no restriction to linguists at all. Romina, the main Proz powwow organizer, has also set up links so that we potentially talk to people attending other powwows that are happening at the same time using Skype. I will bring my laptop/mobile broadband connection and who knows, we might be able to chat to translators in France... See more
