ProZ.com powwow: Beer, sun, fun (and language talk, too!)

Once upon a time.... a tweet about beer made it to the Twitteruniverse and it awakened the sleeping, kind beer monster who lived in the green beer swamp...
So the kind beer monster decided to go to the supermarket to shop for a beer package to organize a get-together with other beer-loving monsters...
The green beer swamp turned blue and it became the beautiful Mediterranean Sea, specifically the area in the Costa del Sol...

UPDATE ON APRIL 17, 2012:
Once attendance is clearer, here are the final details on the two powwow activities:
"PRE-POWWOW" ACTIVITIES ON FRIDAY, APRIL 20 (via Susan Starling):
3:45- 4 pm - Meet at Málaga Cathedral in front of the steps. There are several cafés right there so anyone arriving early can sit and have a drink.
4 pm - Walk (mostly through the park/along the beach) to El Balneario on the ocean for lunch, or just drinks - in any case sitting and enjoying the great atmosphere and the sun!
This is around a 45 min. walk according to Google maps, but I find the walking times are usually shorter than they indicate. But anyone who's not up for the walk is welcome to take the bus and meet us at El Balneario.
7 pm - Corte Inglés (main door on the right, looking from the train station across the street).
7:15-7:30 pm - Evening pre-powwow bar tour start at Antigua Casa de Guardia:
Hola! Soy un recién llegado a la profesión y al portal y habría sido una oportunidad ideal para conocer en persona a algun@s de mis vecin@s :) pero no voy a poder ¡Espero que sea un éxito y que pronto se organice otro!
Good day, Susan. Your May suggestion sounds good to me. Like I said before via Twitter, May is actually an excellent month (not as hot, but already hot enough in terms of temperature).
I will change the date at your request or once we all reach an agreement about the date.
Saludos

Hi Ivette! I actually meant the weekend of May 19 - that's the (4-day) holiday weekend here in Germany anyway. Actually the next weekend is too but only 3 days. But that's also a possibility. I'm open to other suggestions too of course. It's just that on May 11 I'll probably be in Budapest for the MemoQ Fest.

Hi ladies, Concerning a powwow date in May, we should first check up when the famous powwow in Berlin will take place - the "translators' AGM" is something I really want to go to. As far as I know, it's not yet on the powwow list. Let me ask the organizer Steffen and come back to you as soon as possible.

The 4 days weekend in May is already booked by Steffen (Powwow at May 19). And before there is the Frankfurt Powwow at the end of March, so April sounds like a good date.

Just wondering if Easter weekend would be a possibility (I think it is on the weekend of April 8 next year).
The only thing is that there might be a chance of some rain, you never know. If you want a completely "rainless" possibility, the other choices would be any of the summer months or even September (but the latter tends not to be so good for a lot of people who start off a lot of freelancing activity during this month).

Hi Everyone! How nice that this is starting to take shape. Erik and Anette are right, the Berlin powwow is on May 19 and I imagine a lot of us will want to attend that. As for Easter weekend, it's not a bad idea from a holiday perspective but the flights are already very expensive, more that I would want to pay anyway. What would everyone think about April 14? That weekend looks good in terms of flight prices,... See more

That weekend looks good in terms of flight prices, and it's far enough in advance of the Berlin powwow that people don't end up with back-to-back events. Anyway that's what I would suggest! What do you guys think? ▲ Collapse

I am actually no beer connoisseur at all (but don't tell Erik), but I usually prefer Mahou, so it is interesting to learn that there is also a dark Mahou, which I think I have never tried.
I finally managed to discuss the definite date with the main beer monster (smile...), Erik.
And the winner is: Saturday, April 21, 2012
I hope the end of the world is after that (since some people keep talking about the end of the world coming in 2012). It'd be nice to have some laughs and nice cold beers before this world goes kaput.

Anyway, jokes aside, I hope this date change suits everyone.
Susan Starling commented to me that it'd be fun to have a "pre-powwow" on the previous Friday evening, in Málaga city, where there are some really fun places to have some tapas and beer. More info. about that from Susan, when the date is closer.
About the powwow itself, depending on the weather, my idea is to have it where I live (Benalmádena beach area), a kind of barbecue afternoon with grilled meat, salads and lots of beer. It all depends on the weather, of course (hopefully there will be no rain on that weekend). Let's play it by ear.
Hope everyone is having a great final quarter of the year.
Un abrazo,
Ivette
P.S.: corrected the date on the powwow title, but wrote the wrong day on this message, sorry. It's Saturday April 21, 2012. o_O
Y por supuesto que te ayudaremos a mejorar tu español.
But there might as well be a chance for a big powwow in Panama (maybe in 2013, when they will have the Spanish Royal Academy conference there). Let's see where we are then.... See more
What a nice surprise, Estefanía!
So happy that you'll be joining us.
