I generally don't eat at my desk (I hate mess), but I do drink one or two espresso coffees and I always have a bottle of water nearby in a special place on a bookshelf away from my keyboard to avoid disasters. I tend to eat less when I’m busy with work and when I’m really overloaded I might even forget to eat or drink. That’s what happened yesterday and as a result for the first time in years I ate a whole bag of nuts while working…

No matter how carefully you try to eat at your keyboard, tiny crumbs and splashes will end up getting onto it and clogging up the spaces in between the keys. So I generally avoid eating a snacking while working. Common wisdom has it that we should stop every so often for a break from the screen, so that's an ideal time to have a nibble at something.

When I want a snack or am going to eat a proper meal, I always leave my desk and take a break. If I try to eat at my desk, I always end up watching videos on YouTube, so in the end I am not productive and don't give my eyes that precious rest.

Remember to take real breaks!

I constantly eat at my desk, but I have a very big desk and I don't do it near the keyboard. That doesn't prevent me from reading stuff online while I eat.

Regularly, but never on my desk Jul 28, 2019

I eat, drink coffee, smoke, and do other things regularly away from the computer, at least once every hour. I never do any of these things on my working desk. The best benefit of all these breaks is actually to get away from my desk regularly. Plus, there is not much space in it for anything other than work (except music, which is constantly there).

I always eat at my desk while translating, splashing sticky sauce and sweet juice on my keyboard, poking greasy fingers at my computer mouse, lavishly commenting my own translations and sprinkling slimy chunks of chewed food at the monitor. That's how it works for freelancers, doesn't it?

I try not to while working Aug 12, 2019

When I'm working I try not to eat anything, I just don't think my food will digest properly if I'm engaging in translating something meticulous and have to concentrate on that, instead of just chewing and swallowing.

I do like to order delivery and eat while watching movies though, that's another story haha
