Although my idea of the definition includes the first four categories in the query. Although I have to do most of my own admin, I'm not good at it. I am definitely not a project manager. But in my work as a translator, I do also revise (or proofread) and edit texts. And I only occasionally do interpreting work nowadays.
All other activities I do (editing, proofreading, transcreation, project management) are branches of that main tree. | | | Jan Truper Germany Local time: 20:59 English to German Transcreator | Feb 22, 2020 |
This term describes best what I've been doing for several years now (games and subtitles).

I consider myself an architect who, after many years working bilingually in that profession, realised that he was fascinated by switching from one language to another (and one culture to another) to facilitate communication, thereby making the world go round and getting things done.

I decided I was going to be a translator in eighth grade, when I had my first exposure to Spanish. Anything else I did was always considered a step toward my goal. I have been practicing my profession for over 50 years.

Modestly, I am (1) a sportsmanlike dedicated specialist in several fields who has (2) business awareness and is (3) not limited by one language.
Unlike most freelancers, I have never been just a 'pure' translator/interpreter for I prefer to communicate with people, negotiating the terms--and always can explain my decisions, including pricing. Languages is but a means of communication, not the goal.

It represents 90% of my activity time and 90% of my income.
Yes, I am an administrator, too. I've worked as an in-house business admin for 20 years. But now, administration represents a very low percentage of my time and zero income, so I can't consider that to the point of stating I'm an administrator.

I graduated in conference interpretation, but at the beginning of my career I mostly worked as a translator. Little by little I gained lots of experience in interpretation. After 17 years, 95% of my income comes from interpretation, I enjoy it a lot and it pays much more
