A lot quieter | Apr 1, 2020 |
I’m expecting it to be a lot quieter. I have a longish project underway to be delivered by the 6th April, but nothing scheduled after that. I must say that after a slow week in March I was expecting the same but it didn’t happen. We will see…

April will probably be very bad. I also have a longish project to hand in next week but nothing after that. Things look very bad. The Brazilian economy is crumbling, millions of jobs will be lost.
The Brazilian Government plans to help people with a cash bonus, but the problem is there are so many restrictions. Translators probably won't even qualify - so what can we do? Just sit down and weep.

At this moment I believe it will be rather on the quiet side. However, you never know what might come up at any given moment.
Never give up hope and marketing. Above all, stay safe.

Every year for the past four years I've seen a pretty substantial month-on-month increase in April from March as Japanese companies start preparing financial reports that need to be translated before they are released at the end of April or the first half of May.
Will it happen this year? I don't know. Let's see. These companies can't not file financial reports, but maybe some will decide not to translate them...

Other.
I'm not making any predictions. There are far too many variables at the moment.
For me, a lot busier | Apr 2, 2020 |
Already March was extremely busy, with more than 20 documents related to COVID-19, plus the regular translation work of technical manuals, medical texts, general documents, etc.
April has started today and I've already got 10 new texts about coronavirus, so I guess the number will keep on the rise.
Oh, yes, plus the WHO's call-for-translators for urgent translations which I'm guessing it's about the same subject, starting next week.

I had quite an extended translation planned for April. I do not know yet if this had been postponed or not for financial reasons.
How April will be... I will only know at the end of April. It could be a massacre as well as it could be saved and I will not need the government help for the month.

In fact, I expect the whole quarter to be slow and don't really expect things to pick up again until September-October.
