Terminology: research and utilization Learning objectives:
• Understanding the difference between dictionaries and glossaries; understanding the various aspects in providing feedback on such resources.
• Making the best use of ProZ.com’s powerful resources, including Glosspost, Dictionary and Reference Board, and KudoZ.
• Understanding the importance of terminology consistency and how it can be improved by using CAT tools. Overcoming the frequent trepidation of using terminology modules in CAT tools (MultiTerm, etc.)
• Understanding the concordance search function and the advantages of using a secondary (or tertiary) TM.
• Learning the basics of terminology management, including the preparation of a monolingual list of relevant terms from the source file.
• Tips on how to find existing glossaries and other relevant resources, and how to convert them to the format you need.
• Learning best practices on how to find and use relevant resources (parallel websites, parallel texts, dedicated portals) to establish the target-language equivalent of a difficult source term.
• Learn useful techniques of using search engines to find the equivalent terms. - Using concordance search in CAT tools; utility of secondary TM for concordance search purposes. Screenshots and demonstration.
- Terminology management in team projects. purpose, example, and some tips for best practices.
- Collecting material for glossaries and dictionaries: finding the relevant source terms.
- Establishing a project-specific glossary: terminology extraction. Demonstration using a free utility.
- Establishing equivalence between source and target language terms: presentation of various resources, with examples, references and demonstration.
- ProZ.com’s terminology help: KudoZ. Presentation, discussion of best practices.

How do I purchase my spot?
To purchase your seat at this session please click on the "buy" button. Available slots are limited and will be assigned to registered and paid participants as soon as payment is reported. Early payment is advised in order to secure participation. Allow some time for payment processing if you are paying by wire transfer.

How do I access the online platform?
72 hours before the training session takes place, you will receive an invitation to join the session. Please, click the registration link or button provided in the invitation email and complete the registration form.

IMPORTANT:You do not need to have the software installed on your machine, the software features will be presented via the trainer’s machine.
Recommendations:
o You need an internet connection and a separate telephone, so that we can talk to you whilst presenting the training.
o For the visual section of the training course, we recommend that you have a 64kbps link. This means using an ISDN line or Broadband.
o For the audio section of the training course, we recommend that you have a telephone headset or hands-free speaker phone.
o We recommend that you log in 30 minutes in advance of the start time to prepare for the training course.
o Please mute your phone during the training course to ensure that there is no background noise during the audio section.

He became a freelance translator in 2000, and passed the ATA certification exam in his main language pair, English to Hungarian. Attila is a regular speaker at ProZ.com conferences. He lives in Bordeaux, France.
In 2007, Attila set up a team of French<>English translators with a double aim: to provide linguistic aid to humanitarian organizations and to help freelance translators start their career. In 2009, an internship for two translators was set up at the main beneficiary of this team effort, Solidarités. Within the framework of this internship, Attila gave ten training webinar sessions (of 2-2.5 hours each) to the interns and other team members.
