I'm disturbed that open source software is completely ignored in this industry and on this site, just like everywhere else you look, with de facto standards being built around commercial products exclusively. Why no webinars about using OpenOffice.org or LibreOffice, or free CAT software such as OmegaT? These are tools I want to know about, software that can save us all money and even be directly influenced by us, the people who use them.

Hi ehwood,
You're right - there are no webinars on opensource products and tools at this time. Although the webinars are free to attend for the ProZ.com community, they are not free to conduct. There are fees for GoToWebinar, time, staffing, support and more involved in producing these webinars. As such, they skew towards ProZ.com advertising clients as their support enables ProZ.com to maintain these webinars as free for the ProZ.com community.

That said, I will see if we can include some opensource products in the next series of webinars. I have a contact at OmegaT - but if anyone would like to volunteer their time to present a webinar on OmegaT that would be great. I do not have contacts at Libre or openoffice - if anyone would also like to volunteer to share their expertise with those products with the ProZ.com community please contact me directly via drew at proz.com

Webinar on OmegaT | Jan 29, 2014 |
Hello Drew, I have been giving webinars on OmegaT in Portuguese using the Go to Webinar platform for some months now and I am also preparing one in English. I would be happy to present them here, if that's ok with you. Cheers, Sheila

Your free so-called-webinars seem like advertising for the different types of translation software listed.

I've attended to some of the webinars and I've heard being said that some of them were being recorded. Where can I access those recordings? Thank you very much.

Will the webinars be recorded? [Direct link]
Yes, and those videos will be made available within 72 hours of the training taking place. You will see the videos of any courses that you register for in the "My videos" section of the site. Don't forget to register for these events (see the "How do I sign up?" point above), as only those who sign up will be able to access the videos later on at http://www.proz.com/videos/.

I'm also interested in attending webinars regarding open sources tools, specially OmegaT (either in English or Portuguese works for me). I'll keep checking the course list for future trainings.
