Falta de respeito

O uso da palavra powwow para referir-se geralmente a um encontro social ou a uma reunião para discussão é considerado uma apropriação ofensiva de um termo de grande importância cultural para os índios americanos.

Let me do a quick 'Samuel Murray':
Google translate says: "The use of the word powwow to generally refer to a social gathering or discussion meeting is considered an offensive appropriation of a term of great cultural importance to Native Americans."
You know, maybe Proz might take this seriously and actually consider renaming the event if a real, full-blooded Native American found this term offensive, rather than a white European person coming from an affluent country who apparently made it his business to take offense from this term whenever a Powwow topic is posted. Just saying.

Why are you writing in Portuguese? It's not the Portuguese members' fault that Proz.com uses that word. If you want to see this word removed/replaced the best thing to do is to propose a new one directly to Proz.com staff. You don't solve anything by repeating the same thing every time an event like this is organised. Btw, in European Portuguese, at least, "pow-wow" means: - reunião; debate, troca de opiniões (meeting; debate, exchange of opinions) - comício político (political rally) - tomar parte numa reunião; reunir-se (to take part in a meeting; to meet) - trocar opiniões (to exchange opinions) I am sure that nobody is using the word in a pejorative or disrespectful way here, because context is everything in translation!

The comment comes from the Merriam-Webster dictionary. My opinion is that the word powwow is being used on the ProzCom website in a very stupid way.

Não gosto de falar com anônimos, perde toda a credibilidade e passa por um troll. Gente séria não tem medo de se esconder. Sugiro reclamar com o ProZ e não comigo, e contribuir de forma positiva e não destrutiva.

You can respect colleagues not hiding him/herself and being brave enough to show your face instead of behaving as a troll.

Seriously?

Are we doing this again, now?
@Brazilian translators I’m sorry that we’re invading your internal affairs. We are such horrible people.
@ProZ.com staff It might be better to “isolate” Powwow-related topics in language specific forums. So threads like this would only be visible to the relevant parties. I don’t see why these need to go international.
