I am Ecaterina Vâlcescu, a foreign languages passionate and Translation Studies enthusiast, looking for ways to gain experience and expand my area of expertise.

As far as my educational background goes, I am a graduate of Translation Studies and Interpreting from "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University of Iași and decided to stick to the same path by choosing Translation Studies and Terminology as a field of study for my Master's Degree.

Throughout the years, I've explored several methods in which foreign languages can effectively be used. These include: Translating Wikipedia articles that were lacking Romanian versions; editing if necessary; getting a sound grasp of what each textual genre is about and selecting technical, legal and scientific articles, but also fantasy stories as the texts I translated more frequently and specialized in; experiencing with subtitling tools, such as Aegisub and translation software, e.g. memoQ; familiarizing with the principles of TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and applying the to private lessons with a desire to optimize the learning process to all those interested in acquiring a foreign language/ working with it and see them grow both on a linguistic and personal level.

My research interests are listed as follows: language localisation, subtitling, revision, editing and quality assessment, professional translation (documents, administrative translation and legal texts), technical translation (user guides and engineering documents) and literary translation (poems, plays, essays).
