When someone sends you a message via the Proz.com messages function (i.e., not the emailing function we are discussing here), you may not receive an email notification. Last week, I discovered two messages from December I had not been told about. Support say the developers are aware of it but cannot promise when it will be fixed.

No matter what else one might think about Elon Musk, Proz could learn something about his drive to eliminate parts, machinery and procedures that are not necessary. In addition to the contact function in our profiles, we have the Proz.com messages function, real-time chat (which I have disabled) at the Connect message center, which I'd like to disable but can't. I don't even know how to navigate to it. I had to Google it.
Why do we need so many different contact methods, and who has requested them? All the communication I need is email. Keep it simple.
The rest of the site has become much the same, with one unwieldy addition after another, often duplicating other functions, and now the site has reached a stage where staff are unable to keep it all working. What they need is to cut away the fluff and go back to essential functions. Maybe we need another topic about that, but I'm sure we'll just be ignored, as Proz usually do when we tell them what we want and need. They always know better than the users what the users need.
I'm not paying them any more so can't complain, but it's a shame that the site has reached the rickety state it now has.

This is actually a serious business damage for which ProZ is liable. All subscribers were entitled to sue them for this or to ask their money back.
The contact feature is one of the core tools here, I can't believe this is treated like a gimmick! | | | Zea_Mays Italy Local time: 04:48 English to German + ...

I just discovered this through your post and there are messages I was not aware about with collaboration offers. | | | A collective action? | May 20 |

They usually send you an email notification when there is a new message there, but maybe that is no longer reliable either.
It's a complete mess.
Client communication is not idle chatter. It documents what the client offered and promised and what I offered and promised. In other words, many of the messages are contractual documents. I want to be able to find them in my own email archive, not some obscure Proz or client platform or a chat app or whatever, over which I have no control. I have told Proz in the past I would like to disable the the Connect message center, but they were not interested in what I needed.

They have protected themselves under a thick layer of 'shouting' disclaimers, so I think we can forget about that. It would also be extremely difficult to prove how much business may have been lost because of this. I believe other jurisdictions see things differently.

Unless there is proof that the current developers are to blame, I wouldn't blame them. They may not have participated in the original development, and the technical documentation may leave a lot to be desired. New developers at a company often find they have to play Sherlock Holmes to find out how systems work and should be working.
They may also be understaffed.
The buck stops at the top.
We can't fire anyone at Proz, but each of us can 'fire' the service as a whole by not renewing our subscriptions, which is what I did last year. However, it would be wise first to weigh up if being a member provides any benefit that justifies the cost. Doing it in anger is not a good idea.

I mean, if they are not able to fix it, so at least it couldn't do any harm any more? Or put an alert on it for potential customers that it doesn't work?
I also had to google for it and found several recent messages I never was notified of.

For the April and May messages in Connect, I can see that they were simply forwarded to my usual email address automatically. I did not receive any Connect notification, but all I care about is receiving the messages. I don't need Connect.
